Which Board Do I Need?

Not sure which board you need? Start here. Sheet materials all look similar on a pallet, but the right choice depends on the job, the environment and whether it's structural. Here's a quick steer — and if in doubt, call 020 3987 3667 and we'll point you to the right product.

Plywood

The all-rounder. Strong, stable and available in many grades:

  • Hardwood (Chinese Class 2/3, Jade 72) — general joinery, furniture and semi-exposed work
  • Birch (BB/CP) — premium finish for cabinetry and visible work
  • Marine (EN314-2 Class 3) — wet areas, exterior and boatwork
  • Shuttering (Elliotis pine C+/C) — concrete formwork and temporary site use
  • Softwood structural (Arauco CPC / TG4, CE2+) — flooring, roofing and sheathing
  • Phenolic film-faced — reusable formwork and hard-wearing surfaces
  • Flame-retardant (Class 0) — walls and ceilings in public buildings

MDF

Smooth, consistent and easy to machine — ideal where finish matters:

  • Standard — interior joinery, furniture, fit-out
  • Moisture-resistant (MR) — kitchens, bathrooms and humid areas
  • Veneered (oak / walnut) — ready-to-finish doors and panelling
  • Bead & butt — traditional panelling, raw or primed
  • Flame-retardant (Class 0) — fire-rated interiors
